Reasearching Sound in films:
Today i am going to be talking about sound and how it is used in cinema and how much it really effects us the audience. Sound is the noices you hear when watching a movie sound is used in films to create an understanding for the audience and to create more meaning about a character and their emotion in a scene sound is one of the most important things in cinema this gives scenes an atmosphere they would not have with out it for example a horror movie without sound would not be scarey at all because the sound is not creating the horror movie atmosphere for the film.
Diegetic Sound-
Diegetic sound is sound which is part of a the film world e.g. dialogue, music from a radio or juke box. Diegetic sound can be on or off screen in a scene.
Non-Diegetic Sound-
Non diegetic sound is the opposite to diegetic it is sound that is not part of the film world and has been added into through editing e.g. a soundtrack, sound effects and voice overs
On Screen Sound-
On screen sound is sound that you can see where it is coming from for example a radio in a car.
Off Screen Sound-
Off screen sound is souns you can hear but can not see where it is coming from, but it makes sense to the film world e.g. traffic sound and coughing.
Parallel Sound-
Parallel sound is when the sound you hear in a film is what is expected e.g. a scene with children playing on a beach the parallel sounds would be laughter, talking and the sea.
Contrapuntal Sound-
Contrapuntal sound is when the sound does not fit in the movie you are viewing a exaample of this is Jaws. The scenes of the beach are accompanied by the contrapuntal sound of the theme tune "durdur" which does not fit with the happy images of the scene.
My reasearch on sound has helped me to understand how sound can be used to affect the audience in films this will help make my thriller a better film as i now know how i can use sound to affect the audience who watch my thriller.
