Above is our storyboard for scenes 9 to 12

Above is our storyboard for scenes 13 to 16

Planning: Sound

Planning Sound:

The sound I plan yo use in my thriller consists of the following:

  1. Diegetic sound will be used when the older girl is walking and talking to someone on her phone. I have choosen to use this to show the audience that she is not expecting anything that is going to happen to her . This is conventional to thriller as this makes the audience feel like the female victim is safe but in acctual fact she is in alot of danger.
  2. Non-diegetic sound will be used in the opening credits when you hear a news report about a little girl being killed in a car crash. I have choosen to use this hear because it gives a quick piece of important information to the audince that they may miss or see. This is conventional as most thriller give the audience hidden messages about the plot of the film.
  3. Non-diegetic sound will be used in the opening when slow music is played over the opening. I have choosen to use this because it gives at atmoshpere of sadness and creates suspence for the audience. this is conventional as it is creating suspence for the audience and making them think about what is going to happen next.
  4. Diegetic sound will be used when the tap is running when the older girl is washing her face. I have choosen to use this here to create suspence as there will be no sound except the sound of the water running from the tap. This is conventional as it is creating suspence and making the audience feel like the person on screen is in danger.
  5. Diegetic sound will be used when the audience see the mistory antagonist watching the female victim this is to make the audience feel like the female victim is in danger and make them feel like they are there and watching her aswell. This is conventional as it is making the audience feel emotion towards the female victim.

Planning: Opening scene narration

Planning Opening Scene Narration:

The film begins with the opening credits played over a home movie of a little girl playing in her room the home video has a news report saying a little girl has died in a car crash played over it and makes the audience feel on edge after the home movies we see a older girl sitting on her bed with her boyfriend the boyfriend then gives her a gift she opens it and finds he has given her a new car the scene ends with the audience seeing a flash of the the little girl and after a flash of light that fades into the next scene.

The scene begins with us seeing the older walking down the road and on the other side of the road there is a girl walking and she takes a glance and sees a doll she then looks again and all she see is the women walking no doll as she then shakes her head and keeps walking the camera then goes to the POV of someone watching her from behind a tree. She then continues to walk and gets home as she walks into her front garden at her front door there is a doll she then picks it up then remembers where she has seen the doll before and panics and rushes inside the house.

When she arrives home she runs in panicing and goes up stairs to wash her face to try to calm down and she enters the bath room and washes her face her breathing slows and lights go off in her bath room they come back on she looks up to see that the little girl from the home videos is watching her behind her and the older girl then screams and faids to black and then we see the older girl and the little girl in the bath rocking back and forth they then quickly switch places the older girl then get out of the bath and gets closer and closer to the camera and then the screen goes black.

Planning: Character Representation

Planning Character Representation:

Why is character representation imprtant:
Character representation is import as this is the is how the audience are going to view your character the way that you represent your chatacters  will dettermine the way that the audience are going to view your character. Also the way you represent your character will determine th relationship the audience has with them that is why it is important that you represent your character in as many different ways as possible. The way that you represent your character helps the auience understand or give them an idea of the narrative of the film so it makes it easier for the audience to understand what the film is about.

Our characters:

Planning: Pre-production Paperwork

Importance of Pre-production Paperwork:
The importance of preproduction paperwork is that it allows everyone involved to know what days they are need and how long the health and saftey risks involved with filming and proof of agreements that we can use the location and actors.

What is a Production Schedule and why is it important:

A production schedule is the time table for the times and days that the people invloved in the filiming process of the thriller opening. It is important to have this and give it to everyone involved so they where they have to where they have to be and for how long they rae going to be there so they can plan around the days the need to have free for filming.

What is a location Recce and why is it important:

A location recce is giving evdence of where we are filming and to get an idea of where we are going to be filiming this is important as it gives us an idea of the locations we will be filming at and shows people where we ar going to be if they need to find us.
What is a Risk Assessment and why is it imporntant:

The risk assessment shows the people to taking part in the filming the risks involved when making the film it is important to show this to everyone involved so they know the risks that will be involved when they are involved in the filming process.

What is a Cient Release form and why is it important:

The client release is given for is given to the people that we are going to bring into the filming process and is given to them to sighn of that shows proof that they have agreed to take part in the filming this is important as if anyone needs to see permission for the actor to be on camera we would not have the proof they have agreed with out this form.

What is a Location Release form and why is it important:

A location release is used to show proof of the permission that we have be allowed to film on the location we have choosen it is important we have this because with out it we could be thrown out of our location with have choosen to film in and made to delete the film with have already recorded.

Conclusion:
In conclusion pre-production paper work we would not be able to film in the places we want to people will not know when they are needed for filming and will not know the risks that are involved when they are filming this on a whole shows that without the pre-production paper work the filming would be all over the place and we would not be able to film without it.

Planning: Prelimary

Preliminary task:

Purpose of the preliminary task:
The preliminary task is to get an introduction to the filiming and editning process so that when when we have to film our final idea we will be more comfert when using the camera and editing software.

The scenario:

The scenario of the of the our preliminary task is that Chardelle and Lashane just have come out of class and are talking about what they are going to be doing for the rest of the day and then they stop and talk. Lashane then notices Chardelles bracelet and compliments her saying he loves it. She then tells him that it is her lucky braclet and she then drops it Lashane then tells her he will go and get it the scene ends with him finding the braclet on the floor.

Group Roles:
I was the camera man and editor, Chardelle was the actor and dierector an Lashane was also the actor and producer.

Difficulties we ecountered whilst filming:
We encounter a few difficulties while filming the main difficulty was alot of people were getting in our shots so this caused problems when the scene was playing out the other difficulty that encountered was the noise around the academy this sound made it hard to hear what was happening in the scene.

Difficulties we encountered whilst editing:

We only encountered one problem whilst editing this was making sure that the scene is only 30 seconds long we have gone over by 5 seconds as without the extra 5 seconds the scene would not make sence.

What have you learned:
I have learned how to simply edit using final cut and how to use the camera we are going to use when filiming our thriller.

How was this task benificial:
This task has been benificial because it has allowed us to get ropes of how we film our idea and the diffirent ways we can use the camera to make different camera angles also we now know how to simply edit our 30 second clip so we now know how to edit when editing our final idea.

Planning: Editing

Planning Edting:

The editing i plan to use in my thriller film consists of the following:

  1. A blur edit will when the older girl is washing her face. I have choosen to use this edit because it gives the illusion for the audience to see what she is seeing this so it they will then feel like they are in her shoes and feel the emotions that she is feeling. This conventional to thriller films as it is used to make the audience feel the way that the character is feeling by showing what they are seeing and the blurred vison is used to make the audience feel on edge about what is about to happen to the character.
  2. Im going to use a cross dissolve to quickly show a news reporter reading news about a girl that has been hit by a car. I have choosen to use a cross dissolve to quickly give the audience a peace of important information about the plot to see if they will be able to link this to the plot of the opening and fingure out how the older girl and younger girl are related. this is conventional to the thriller genre because it s giving a small piece of information without tell the whole stoy to the audience so they become curious and then want to watch more.
  3. Im am going to edit in a flash after the light zoomes into the girls face. i have choosen to do this because it brings a dramatic ending to the first part of the thriller openig and makes the audience curious about what happened to the little girl. This is conventional to the thriller genre because it makes the audience want to watch more to find out what has happened to the little girl.
  4. I am going to use a fade to black at the end of the thriller opening and then show the title of the film. I have choosen to use a fade to black as it does not give a clear ending to the thriller and makes the audience curious of what is going to happen next. This is conventional to thrillers as it is leaving the audience curious and wanting to know what is going to happen next.
  5. I am going to use a fade to black also the older girl is going to be possessed by the little girl. I have choosen to use a fade a black here as it shoing that the girl has come back to get the older girl but makes the audience guess what the little girl is going to do to the older girl.

Planning: M.E.S

Lighting:
We aregoing to use low key lighting through out our thriller opening because low key lighting is the most typical lighting expected to be in a thriller by a audience because low key lighting represents danger and keep the audience on edge because they can not clearly see what is happening or clearly see what is happening in a scene or cant clearly see the antagonist this keeps the audience on edge as they dont know what is going to happen next because the situation is not clear to them.

Setting:
Our thriller will be set in a swing park and a family home because the swing park in scene as a safe place for children to play and have fun but we are portraying it as a scary haunted park where are female victim is being tormented by the little ghost girl who is the antagonist in the thriller this will make the audience feel fear because they dont see childrens play grounds as unsafe place so this will catch them off guard as they will not expect a childrens playground to be like that. We are using the family home because this setting is typical to the thriller genre this setting has been used in many films such as scream and paranormal activity. This setting is typicaly used because people see there home as somewhere that is safe and they can not be harmed but the setting is usualy used to catch them off guard and show that the victims home is the most unsafe place they can be this is the reason a we are using this setting to always keep the audience guessing.

Iconography:
We are going to use a doll as the iconography in our thriller as this is related to the little girl we are using in our thriller because when the older girl sees the dollshe recognizes it and then realises what is going on and this makes her become terrified and thwn run home also the doll is then seen with the little girl the first time you see her and then you realise how the older girl and the little girl are related.

Costume & Har and Make up:
The costume that we are going to use is light coloured jeans and a t shirt for the older the light colours will be used to show how innocent the loder girl is and make the audience clearly see that she is the victim. The little girl will be wearing a white dress with white make up to make her look pale and will have messy hair this is used to make the girl seem inoccent but then makes the audience suprised when they find out that the little girl is the antagonist.

Body language & Facial expression:
The older girl will have very confident and comfertable body languagebut as the opening plays out she will become more adgitated and on edge as she is getting more and more scared. The little girls body language will be strange and demon like as she is a ghost trying to get her revenge. The older girl will have a calm happy facial expression at the start of the film but as it plays out her facial expreassion will become more and more terrified. The little girl will have a emotionless facial expression so that the audience will see that she is not a nice sweet little girl.

Planning: Cinematography

Planning Cinematography

The cinematography I plan to use in my thriller opening consists of the following:

  1. A POV will be used when the older girl has run home scared and runs upsatirs I her house to wash her face. I have chosen to use a POV shot here as the water affect it could have by editing it in will add suspence as she slowly brings her face up to look in the mirror and see the little ghost girl in the mirror. This will be affective as the vision of the older girl so it will add suspence as the older girls vision is blurred and you can see the blurred figure of the little girl. This is conventional to the thriller genre because it is used to create suspence and keep the audience on edge and make you feel you be able to feel like you are in their shoes and make the audience feel the way that they are feeling in the scene.
  2. A reaction shot  is going to be used when the older girl sees that the little girl watching her in the mirror. I have chosen to use a reaction as it shows the yhe emotions of the older girl in alot of detail so you can clearly see how she is feeling. This is conventional to the thriller genre because this is used to clearly put across in alot of detail how scared the girl is and get the audience to react the same way that she is.
  3. A zoom will be used at the end of the opening credits to zoom into the little girls face. I have choosen to use a zoom here because it puts across that something is coming towards her and also clearly shows her recation to what is going to happen i  alot of detail. This is conventional to thriller as it is used to make the  audience clearly see how scared the little girl is and make them feel the same way the she is.
  4. A pan will be used when the girl is walking past the swing park. I have choosen to use a pan hee because it shows the full body of the feamle victim clearly for the first time and also shows where she is. This is conventional to the thriller genre because it is used in many other thrillers to show the audience the charcater and the area around them and this gives the audience of the idea the character is in for example if the character is walking through a dark allyway the audience will then know that the character is in danger.
  5. Tracking is also going to be used when the older girl is walking. I have choosen to use this as when tracking the camera is closer to the girl so you will be able to see the way she is reacting to the situation clearly through her emotions and her body language.

Reasearch: Results from questionaire

Results of questionaire:

Why is it important to get and analyse feed back:
Its important to get feed back from your questionaire because this is going to show you what ypur audience is going to expect to be in your film and what they expect your film about. It makes it easier to come up with ideas for your film and also if parts of your idea are not what people would expect to see in a thriller film.

Graphs of questionaire:

This pie chart shows that most people watch movies online this will help us decide the best place to put our final product where most people will watch it.

This shows us our target audiences prefered theme when watching a thriller film this will help us decide on witch theme we want to use when making our thriller.

This charts showed us what the most typical setting our target audience think should be in a thriller film this helped us decide on what setting we will use in our final idea.

How has my reasearch been benificial:
My reasearch has help me to come up with new ideas for my thriller to help me make it a more typical thriller film that people will understand and also has helped me to change parts of my thriller that may not be suitable or typical to what people would expect to see in a thriller film.

Reasearch: Questionaire

Questionaire:

Why is primary reasearch important:
The importance primary reaserach is that i gives you an idea of what of what the audience is expecting from the film you are going to make before you make it so that you can make the film the best it can be and make sure that the audience will like it by putting what they expect from the genre is in in the film for example in my questionaire i asked what they colour clothing the expect a antagonist to wear in a thriller black, red, blue or white 16 out of 20 of the people i asked said that they would expect the antagonist to wear black so i will make my antagonist wear black in my thriller.

Who did i ask and why:
I gave my questionaire to years 12 and 13 in my school bacuase they will have the most expierience watching thrillers as they are at the age that they can legaly watch thriller films so they will be the best people to aske my questions to.

Example of my questionaire:

Conclusion:
My reasearch has been benificial because it has enabled me to know what the thriller audience expects from a typical thriller so i can make my thriller tyical to the thriller genre so i can make sure that hte people who watch my thriller fillm will know clearly that the film is typical to the thriller genre.

Reasearch: Opening credits & Typography

Reasearch on opening credits:

What are opening credits?

Opening credits are shown at the very beginning and list the most important members of the production. They are usually shown as text superimposed on a blank screen or static pictures, or sometimes on top of action in the show. There may or may not be accompanying music.

What is their purpose and what do they provide?

Opening are used to show the audience an idea of what the film they are going to watch is going to be like this can be shown by typography used and music used in the opening credits also it is used to show the audience the most important poeple to do with the movie they are going to watch their order of importance is shown by the order their names appear in the opening the order is usualy production, actors, casting, music, costume, editing, producer and dierector.

How do opening credits make the audience feel?
Depending on the type of film you going to watch the opening credits can make you feel different ways for example if you are going to watch a thriller the goal would be to make the audience feel on edge and uncomfertable from the start of the film.

Thriller opening credits analysis:
In the opening credits of se7en they use dark lighting and colour is used throughout the opening credits low key lighting is used to make the audience feel on edge an uncomfertable throughout the opening also the colour red is used throughout the opening by the use of red filters and red blood splatter on the book pages in the opening this is used to show that the film will have lots of blood and gore throughout and also helps to give a uneasy feeling for the audience at the beging of the film. This conventional to thrillers because the goal of a thriller is to create an uneasy scary atmosphere for the audience

Also the slow eery music used makes an uneasy atmosphere as the scratching sounds and radio tuning sounds make the audience feel uncomfertable and uneasy because they are strange and anoying noises for the audience to hear. This conventional to thriller movies because thriller want the audience to feel uncomfertable this makes them feel uncomefertable from the begining of the movie.

Conclusion:
In my opening credits i will be using the order of importance and i will want to also make the audience feel uneasy and uncomfertable like the opening credits of se7en as they are very affective and make the audience uneasy from the begining of the movie.

Reasearch on Typography:

What is typography:
Typography is how writing is presented to the audience through font, style, size, letter case and colour in film.

Typography and its connotations:

Action: These are the opening credits to expendables big bold thick style of lettering is used to give as an uderstanding that the film is going to have alot of action related content also the font i quiet big with an army style to the lettering this gives us the idea that there will be alot of action in the film.
sci-fi: Below are is the opening title to star trek into darkness the is given a sci-fi look by using an alien look to the lettering in the title to make it clear to the audience that they are watching a sci-fi movie and they use big bold lettering to also suggest that there is the sub-genre of action being used in the film. They use a bluey sci-fi colour and a metal futureistic texture to the letering to further show the audience that the film is a sci-fi movie.
Thriller: Below are he opening credits to se7en the opening credits use eery scartchy looking style to show the audience that the film is goin to be quiet eery and could make them feel uncomfertable they make the letter shackey with very strange uncomfertable noices over the top to make the audience feel uncomfertable and show them that the film they are watching is a thriller.
What typography i want to use:in my thriller film i want to use the scratchy typography used in se7en examples of this are in the opening credits above i want to use this typography because it is good for making the audience feel uncomefertable and gives the opening credits a eery feeling for the audience. i will also want my typography to quiet small but big enough to be able to be read by the audience the colour i will use will be white becuase our film will be quite dark so this will make the writing stand out for the audience.

Reasearch: Age Certificates

Reasearch on Age Certificates:
What is the role of the BBFC and why are they important to the film industry?
The BBFC are the board in britain which decide which films are aloud to be realiesed in the uk they decide if a film needs to be censored, scenes need cut or if the film needs to be completely banned the BBFC is important because they help to keep people safe from from things would not want to see or there children to see when watching a film they are the people unacceptable content from being able to be viewed in our cinemas.

What are the different age certificates?
The different age certificates are U, PG, 12A, 12, 15, 18, R and X in England the age ratings only go up to 18 and in America they have two extra age rating which are R and X ratings.

The 12A age certificates:
The age certicate 12A is a very new age certificate it was made when there was a argument over the film spider-man the first spider man movie was scene as to violent to be shown to young viewers as it was seen  as being to violent to be watched by children but the people argued that the film should not be band as the spider-man is part of many children child hoods and they should not be banned from being able to watch the film the BBFC then brang in 12A rating to give adults a choice if they want to take their children who are under twelve to wacth these types of films.

What age certificates do thrillers tend to get?
Thriller films tend to get the age certificates 15 and 18 this is because thriller films tend to have very graphic and grosome content for example blood, torture and weapons.

What age certificate would i give my thriller?
I would give my thriller the age rating 15 a the film will be quiet scary and will have some blood and weapons used this would not be suitable to be viewed in my opinion by pople under the age of 15.

Conclusion:
I have learned what certficates are needed or what types of films and what certificates are needed when looking at the content of a film.

Reasearch: Scream analysis

Scream analysis

In the opening scene of scream the female victim is alerted by a phone calls from a unknown caller who ends up deing the antagonist and her killer. The antagonist plays around with the female victim at first  and tells her if she does not awnser his questions correctly he will kill her boyfriend. The scene ends with the female victim being killed and her mother and father come home and find her dead and the antagonist is no where to be found.
How is the opening scene of scream coventionl to thriller films:

In the opening scene of scream a point of view shot is used when she is looking out of her front door window looking for the protagonist who is tormennting her through her phone. the shot creates a connection with the audience and feel the tension and fear that the female victim is feeling when being tormented by the antagonist.

When the scene begins there is natural lighting used this makes it feel like the situation is normal but tricks them as the because the person they thought would be the main character is killed. this is conventional to thrillers becuase they want there audience to be shocked and supriesed.

They use the white colours on the female victim  and has blonde hairthey use the light colours on her because to the audience these colours have the connotation of purity and innocence these shows the audience that she is a sweet innocent girl but also gives them idea that she will be the easy target for the antagonist.

The female victim cowers in a connor after the antagonist reveals he has captured her boyfriend her body language shows the audience how terrified she now is this makes the audience feel like the film is more realistic as this would be anyones reaction in the situatution this makes them be able to relate to the character and show sympathy for her.

The female victim shows a confused or afraid facial expression after she has told the stranger who is the antagoist to stop calling her this makes the audience understand that she is now afraid of who ever is continuely calling her this also makes the audience feel like the movie is more realistic as this would be anyones reaction to the situation.

Iconography is shown when the female victim picks up a knife at the begining of the scene this is very important to the scene as this is the murder weapon used on the female victim at the end of the scene this makes the audience get on the edge of their seats as they are now thinking will the knife have any significance in the scene.

The scene uses slow motion editing when the antagonist is about to capture and kill the female victim the slow motion builds tension for the audience as they are wondering if the antagonist is going to get to the female victim in the scene and kill her.

A non-diegetic soundtrack is used when the female victim is running around her house locking all of the doors and windows the music quickens the tempo of the scene which relates to the female victims sense of enrgence and the adrenaline that she has to make sure she can stay safe this makes the audience feel the way that she is feeling worried and wants her to quickly lock all the doors in her house so that she acn be safe.

Conclusion:
In conclusion the opening scene of screen has taught me what a conventional thriller film should be like and what i can use in my thriller to make the thriller affect my audience the way that i want it to. In this thriller i think i would like to use psychological affect of the audience and victim knowing that the victim is being watched but not knowing what he looks like and also i would like to use the costumes i would like my victim to wear light innocent colours and my antagonis to wear dark scary colours to make it clear to my audience who is who in the thriller.

Reasearch on Censorship:

Who are theBBFC and what do they do:
BBFC stands for British Board of Film Classification the BBFC are the board in britain which decidewhich films are aloud to be realiesed in the uk they decide if a film needs to be censored, scenes need cut or if the film needs to be completely banned the BBFC is important because they help to keep people safe from from things would not want to see or there children to see when watching a film they are the people unacceptable content from being able to be viewed in our cinemas.
BBFC Logo.svg

What things are censord and why?
Things that are sexual violence e.g. rape, graphic killing scenes, torture, strong language, real life references, weapons, nudity, corruption of the young, religion and class. These things are censord in film because they are things that people should be able to watch and enjoy watching as they are things that are either illegal or wrong and should in in cinema also things that could influence young minds and make them think that they are right to do in their everyday life.

Difference between a film being cut and a film being band:
The difference between a film cut and a film being band is when a film is cut it means that certain scenes are unacceptable and need to be taken out of the film and the rest of the film is acceptable and after the unacceptable scene/scene's have been taken out of the film it may be released but when a film is banned it means the whole film is unaccetable and will never be able to be released in cinemas.

Forna for censorship and Kemode against censorship and my opinion:
The argument between Forna and Kemode is that Forna believes that films that need to be censord due to unacceptable content should be censord as they can/could influence young peoples minds to think that the unacceptable acts that take place are normal and acceptable and carry these acts out in later life or at their current age an example of this is the murder of Jamie Bollger who was killed by two young people who watched chucky the movie and carried out the acts taken place in the movie on a todler and then killed him. Kemodes view on this is that all people should have the freedom to watch what they want as its their choice if they want to watch these unacceptable acts in a movie and they are choosing to do it and they have decided that the acts taken place will not affect them. My opinion on this argument is that films that have unacceptable acts taken place in them e.g. rape could and have influenced youg minds to think that the acts are acceptable in real life and their is evidence of this in the Jamie Bollger murder.

Conclusion:
In conclusion i have learnt that about what things need to be censord in films and the diffrence between what it means for a film to be cut and a film to be band. I  now know what things i need to consider when making my thriller that will be unaccetable to be put in my thriller film.

Reasearch: Narrative themes

Reasearch on Narrative themes:

What are themes and why are they important in film:
Themes are the main subject or idea of a film they are important as they define what the film is acctual going to be about and what the film will be like.

Why are themes dependent on genre:
Themes are dependent on genre because they need to have a genre to be able to choose the right thmes for the film that is being made they need a genre becuase with out the genre they could make a film terrible by for example if you put the theme of love into a thriller or horror genre it would not fit and would make the film strange and people will most probably not watch the film as they would not want to watch a film that is ment to scare them be about love and happiness.

Common themes in thrillers and there impacts on the audience:
The most common themes in thriller films are obsession, murder and survival these are all common themes as they are all used to create fear in a audience there has to be murder in thrillers or there will be no fear in the audience as they will feel like that all the characters are always safe survival is common as the victims are always trying their hardest to get away from the antagonist and not get murdered and obsession is common as the antagonist is always obsessed with the victims that he wants to kill. These themes are used to make the audience know clearly they are watching a thriller as these things will always keep theme on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens next and make sure that they get scared throughout the film.

Conclusion:
Two themes that i want to use in my thriller is murder and obssesions as they are great themes to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and keep the scared throughout the film.

Reasearch: Narrative Theory

Reasearch on Narrative theory:

What is Narrative and why is it important?
Narrative is the way a story is put together and presented to the audience it is important because the narravtive i what makes the audience it understand how the film is set out and what part of the film they are at because the narrative makes them understand this.

Vladimir Propp’s Theory of Narrative:
Vladimir Propp suggested that characters took on the role of narrative 'spheres of action' or functions. From a comprehensive study of folktales Propp came up with seven different character types:
The hero, usually male, is the agent who restores the narrative equilibrium often by embarking upon a quest (or search). Propp distinguishes between
The victim hero, who is the centre of the villain's attentions, and the seeker hero who aids others who are the villain’s victims. The hero is invariably the texts central character.
The villain who usually creates the narrative disruption.

The donor gives the hero something; it may be an object, information or advice, which helps in resolution of the narrative.

The helper aids the hero in the task of restoring equilibrium.

The princess (the victim) is usually the character most threatened by the villain and has to be saved, at the climax, by the hero. The father's (who in fairy tales was often the king) role is usually to give the princess away to the hero at the narrative's conclusion. He may also dispatch the hero.

The dispatcher sends the hero on her or his task (who can typically be the princess father)

The false hero appears to be good but is revealed, at the narrative's end, to have been bad

Characters can fulfill more than one sphere character type, for example; a princess may also be a helper.

Todorovs Narrative theory:

Izetan Todorov was a Bulgarian structuralist linguist who pulished influential work on narrative from thw 1960's onwards he suggested that all stories begin with a equlibrium or status quo where opposing forces are in balance . This is interrupted by a series of events problems are solved so that order can be restored to the world of the fiction. He clamed narratives are structured in five different stages.

1. A state of equilibrium at the outset.
2. A disruption of the equilibrium by some action.
3. A  recognition that there has been a disruption.
4. An attempt to repair the disruption.
5. A reinstatement of the equilibrium.

Aristotles narrative theory:
Aristotles came up with his theory 2000 years ago he was a scholar his narrative theory is that all stories have a begining, middle and a end this is the most simple theory that there is as this is the theory that every will know without studying it as because his theory was made 2000 years ago it has been passed down through many generations and now everyone knows the theory and simply think every story should have a begining, middle and a end.

What narrative do thrillers use the most:
Thrillers use Propp's narrative theory the most as in thrillers all the actors/actresses have their roles of what kind of character they are going to be for example in scream you have a hero victim this is the person the antagonist the villain what to kill the most but can not this is how thrillers use Propp's theory.

In my thriller i think i will also be using the most common thriller narrative Propp's theory as it has shown it is very sucsessful theory to use in thriller films.

Reasearch: Setting and Iconography

Reasearch on Setting and Icongraphy:

what are setting and iconography and why are they important convention how can it help with audience understanding:

Setting:
Setting is where the film is set they are usualy built on set or set in a specific location relivent to the film setting is important as it makes the audience feel in different ways and if the setting is in no way related the film the film will not put across the affect on the audience that is wanted.

Iconography:
Iconography a objects that give significance to the scene iconography is important because it shows the audience what is going to be important in the scene and what they can expect from it.

Stereotypical themes of thrillers:
Stereotypical setting for thrillers are dark forest, deserted/isolated houses and homes these are stereo typical because isolated/deserted houses and dark forests are places that everyone will find very scary and will keep the audience on edge and homes are seen as safe places and this affects the audience even more because they think and feel like the victim is safe when in acctual fact the victim is not.

Stereotypical Iconography:
Stereotypical icongraphy in thriller are weapons, shadows, confiened spaces and street lamps these are all iconography that give ideas of what he audience can expect from the scene they are watching for a example shadows give the idea that the victim is being stalked or watched and could be sneek attacked by the antagonist.

How are setting dependent on sub-genre:
Settings are dependent on sub-genre as the sub-genre is the deeper setting for the film the sub-genre is what the setting will be based on so a psychological thriller will have a setting realated to the sub-genre for example a setting to go with this sub-genre will be a church.

How is iconography dependent on sub-genre:
Iconography are dependent on sub-genre because if there is iconography of a knife in a sci-fi sub-genre it will not make sence so iconogrpahy needs to relate to the sub-genre or it will make the film not make sence.

Setting is shown by using the female victims home that she will feel safe in and secure but in acctual fact she is in danger as she is tormentented by the antagonist the audience realise that her home is not safe at all this makes the audience feel on edge and affraid as they see a home as safe place to be and makes them feel afraid of what is about to happen.

A knife is shown at the begining of the scene and this then used by the antagonist to kill the female victim this is iconography of the knife and shows the audience that the knife is going to be important in the scene this makes the audience feel on edge because they have now seen the knife and curious of what it is going to be used for and who will use it.

Conclusion:
I am now thinking of using a isolated and desterted area in the film and using knife as the iconography in my thriller as both are very common in thrillers and are very affective to use on the audience to create fear and keep them on the edge of their seats.

Reasearch: Facial expression, Body language and Costume

Rasearch on Body language, Facial expression and Costume:

What is Body language, Facial expression and Costume:

Body language is the way a characters actions, movement and the way they represent themselves in film. Body language is a important convention in film because it helps us to understand the way the character is going to be as it will show us if the person is for example crazy their body language will be extravagant and will show us that the person is crazy.

Facial expression is the emotions that someone shows through their face for example sadness. Facial expression is important because it helps the audience  to understand the way the actor/actress is feeling when we are watching the film.

Costume is what the actor/actress is wearing in the film. Costume is important because it shows how a character is going to be represented for example when a female victim will wear white to show the audience that she is a sweet innocent girl this will help the audience to bew the victim in the film.

The connotaions and stereotypes of characters costume:
There are many stereotypes of characters costume in film that all people will expect a victim, antagonist and protagonist to wear in film for example people would expect a antagonist to wear black or a mask and they would expect the victim to wear white clothes or cute clothes and also they could be a child so they could also expect them to wear childs clothes these are stereo typed as they have been used in thriller films for many years.

Stereotypical victim costume:
A stereotypical victim will be a female in her teens they will most likely have long blonde hair to make her look cute she will be very attractive she will also wear a dress on any other clothes that are reveling and she will wear light colours for example white and she will be a easy target an example of this is the female victim ion the first scene of scream.

Stereo typical antagonist costume:

A stereo typical antagonist will wear dark colours like black will wear mask or something to conceal there identity scruffy long hair to make them look crazy and also they could have facial dissfigerments an example os stereo typical antagonist is a jason from friday the thirteenth.

How body language is represented to the audience:
Body language language is used in thrillers to affect them and to make them feel emotions for example body language of a victim would terrified and hopeless and this will make the audience feel empathy towards to the victim.

Stereotypical victim body language:
Stereotypical body language of a victim will be scared, terrified, dum, flurtasios this is because they want the audience to see the victim as a easy target and make the audience feel empathy towards them so that they can feel the way the that the victim feels.

Stereotypical antagonist body language:
Stereotypical body language of a antagonist is confident, calm, strong and intimidating this is because they want the audience to see the antagonist as a scary intimidating person that will create fear for audience when they see him/her.

How facial expression is represented to the audience:
Facial expression is used to make the audience know how the understand the way that the actor/actress is feeling this makes it easy for the audience to understand what kind of film they are watching as in a thriller a stereotypical facial expression would be fear so they would most likely think that is the genre they are watching.

Stereotypical victim facial expression:
Stereotypical victim facial expression are terrified, scared facial expressions this makes it clear that they are the victim and is used to make people show empathy towards the victim.

Stereotypical antagonist facial expression:
Stereotypical antagonist facial expressions will be confident and crazy facial expressions to make it clear they the antagonist as people have stereo typed these facial expressions over a long period of time.

Conclusion:
My reasearch into Body language, Facial expression and costume has helped me to understand how the acters in my thriller will be able to affect my audience by using body language and facial expression and i have now a idea of what people will expect my victim and antagonist to wear in my thriller. /therefore my reasearch has given ideas of how i can make my thriller a great one.
